AEA Annual Regulatory & Industry Affairs Session
Friday, Apr. 25
Panels range from leadership and safety management systems to international affairs, NextGen and
ADS-B including:
  • The Avionics Panel of the Future
The FAA has proposed an ADS-B equipment mandate for 2020. That’s only 12 years away, and all affected aircraft must be equipped by that date. But what about the rest of the communications, navigation and surveillance equipment that is part of the future of the FAA’s airspace traffic management proposal: NextGen. While still in the early stages of working group discussions, what is clear is the 1960s vintage panel will be obsolete for certain flight operations
by as early as 2025. This session takes an early look at the avionics panel of the future.

  • Installation of Primary Equipment:
How to Deal with Enhanced Certification. For 20 years, new technology has been introduced into general aviation aircraft as supplemental equipment with a minimum of certification oversight. As the next generation of avionics equipment is introduced by industry and utilized by the FAA and other civil aviation authorities as primary communications, navigation and surveillance equipment, how does this paradigm shift impact the follow-on installations? This session discusses the challenges of certification and installation of primary-use CNS equipment.
