Primary Operational Objectives:
The Avionics Manager would be responsible for the supervisory functions of the Avionics team, as well as to perform avionics/electronics duties on aircraft.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible to supervise and lead the team by effectively and efficiently manager personnel by communicating direct areas of accountability and expected performance, ongoing training, as well as employee relations
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships by providing information relating to current work orders and other recommended avionic services available
  • Communicate with the Maintenance Manager and Director of Maintenance to ensure effective scheduling and coordination of work between related departments; as well as communicating promptly regarding any issues and taking prompt corrective action where necessary
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all company team members and customers
  • Mentor Avionics team to successfully perform job tasks and functions
  • Perform installation and maintenance of aircraft avionics components and electrical systems components, such as, airborne navigation/communication systems, weather radar, autopilot, compass systems, and accessories in accordance with MFG specifications and FAA guidelines (aircraft such as Piper, Cessna, Pilatus, Hawker Beech, Gulfstream, and other general aviation and corporate aircraft)
  • Troubleshoot to determine malfunctions on aircraft avionics components and electrical systems components, such as, airborne navigation/communication systems, weather radar, autopilot, compass systems, and accessories
  • Test and inspect aircraft communications components, navigation components, weather radar, autopilot, compass systems, and accessories to MFG specifications
  • Complete all checklists, forms and reports as required in accordance with the company, government, and FAA regulations and guidelines
  • Maintain adequate knowledge to understand and follow the repair facility's Inspection Procedures Manual
  • Responsible to follow and comply with all safety rules and regulations
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

Qualifications:

  • Degree or certificate from an accredited two (2) year college, university or technical school in avionics maintenance or electronics required or equivalent experience
  • Prefer 3-5 years of experience with GA/Corporate aircraft; supervisory experience a plus
  • A&P License a plus
  • Repairman Certificate a plus
  • FCC General Radiotelephone License preferred
  • Knowledge of aircraft component repair
  • Knowledge of avionics, electronic and electrical test equipment
  • Knowledge of military or commercial aviation maintenance and its terminology
  • Knowledge of U.S. Government regulations for federal contractors and FAA maintenance programs

Physical Demands:

Lead Avionics Installation Technician and Avionic Supervisor /Manager

JLC Avionics, a part 145 avionic repair station located in Ashland, Oregon is currently seeking an experienced Lead Avionics Installation Technician, and an Avionics Supervisor/Manager.

Both jobs involve the installation, modification, troubleshooting, wiring and repair of aircraft avionics systems. The Supervisor/Managers job also requires a good avionic systems knowledge with respect to new and legacy equipment, the ability to manage resources, workload scheduling, and customer interaction, competency with typical repair station paperwork, applicable FAA regulations and returning aircraft to service.

Our clients include owners of military fast jet, rotorcraft, corporate and business aircraft, general aviation, and experimental aircraft. The company services the US government and aircraft owners both nationwide and locally across the west coast.

Relevant qualifications or previous avionics shop experience required. Sheet-metal experience and/or CNC operation with AutoCAD familiarity desirable. FCC, NCATT, A&P/IA desirable but not essential.

This role is available as a full-time position.

Minimum Qualifications:
* Demonstrable, previous experience as an avionics installation technician. Experience of general aviation aircraft essential.
* Installation experience with the following manufacturers/products preferred: Garmin, Free Flight, Aspen, Avidyne, Bendix King, NAT, Narco, PS Engineering, L3 Communications, JPI, Genesys, and Electronics International.
* Working knowledge of aircraft electrical and avionic systems.
* Experience using mechanical and electrical crimping hand tools and test equipment.
* The supervisors/managers job also requires demonstrable previous experience in a post or like position.

Job Requirements:
* Demonstrate technical skills and expertise in avionics and aircraft systems operational testing and troubleshooting.
* Fabricate per drawings and standard practices wire bundles and assemblies to include marking of wires, properly securing wires into bundles, and termination of wires into a variety of contacts and connectors.
* Within budgeted or estimated time, perform installations, remove and replace components, perform checks and tests.
* Accurately interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, system schematics, drawings, engineering orders and other technical documents.
* Properly utilize and maintain hand tools/test equipment to perform repairs and installations.
* Be knowledgeable and conversant with relevant FAA regulations.
* Accurately document work performed.

Skills:
* Experience and ability to read, interpret, and follow wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and parts lists.
* Must possess excellent oral and written skills, as well as strong analytical abilities.
* Excellent concentration and attention to detail with good work efficiency and accuracy.
* Ability to think creatively, while following documentation and maintaining prescribed quality standards.
* Ability to work both in a small team environment and also unsupervised.
* Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to constant changing work assignments.
* Willingness to work overtime when required.

Physical Effort:
* Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
* Standing for long periods of time, working in confined aircraft interiors, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required to perform the functions of this position.
* Must have full color vision and visual acuity with or without corrective lenses.

Other Requirements:
* Must be legally authorized to work in the USA.
* Must be able to pass pre-employment and random alcohol and drug tests.
* Must have ability to reliably travel independently to and from the workplace.
* Must be able to work in an environment where dogs are present.

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
-      Ability to troubleshoot, adjust, repair, or replace malfunctioning aircraft systems and components; assemble components such as switches, electrical controls, and junction boxes
-      Connect components to assemblies such as radio systems, instruments, inverters
-      Install electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems in aircraft
-      Interpret flight test data in order to diagnose malfunctions and systemic performance problems
-      Lay out installation of aircraft assemblies and systems following documentation such as blueprints, manuals, and wiring diagrams
-      Test and troubleshoot instruments, components, and assemblies using circuit testers, oscilloscopes, and voltmeters
-      Coordinate work with that of engineers, technicians, and other aircraft maintenance personnel
-      Fabricate wiring harnesses and test aids as required; maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work
-      Set up and operate ground support and test equipment to perform functional flight tests of electrical and electronic systems when needed

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must have 3+ years of avionics installation experience with products that include Garmin GTN 650/750, Garmin G600/G500 and Garmin GTX 345, on aircraft that range from high-performance single engine to mid-sized jets.
  • Must be able to individually, without assistance, remove existing avionics and install new major manufacturers equipment (Garmin, Honeywell, Rockwell Collins) in a variety of airframes.
  • Must be able to conduct and interpret functional tests of avionics/electrical systems in accordance with blueprints, worksheets, manufacturers installation manuals and engineering drawings.
  • Must have experience in troubleshooting complex avionics systems.
  • Experience installing cabin entertainment systems and WiFi systems is a plus.
  • Provides insights on how to create better efficiencies in the installation process for any avionics.
  • Ensures that work accomplished meets applicable regulatory requirements and customer specifications.
  • Checks all work and ensures a defective-free assembly prior to final inspection.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED
  • Minimum three (3) years avionics installation experience with Garmin products
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams
  • FAA A&P License preferred, FCC License a plus
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements and customer specifications
  • Computer skills and general software knowledge necessary
